Furniture
scratches?
Try
a matching color of shoe polish; shoe repair shops have numerous
unique shades. Since the shoe polish contains wax, you can gently
rub the scratch with a color closest to wood color, then lightly
buff to a shine. Your scratch will seem to have disappeared!
Prolong
life of cane chairs
Once a year, lightly moisten the bottom of your cane chairs with a spray
bottle of water. This will keep the cane supple and prolong its life.
Do
not store furniture in attic or basement!
We know, it's tempting to put an extra table or couple of chairs
in your basement or attic "just for a while". But choose
climate controlled storage instead. In an attic, the temperature
can reach close to 140 degrees during the day, then drop to 50 degrees
at night. This is a 90 degree temperature swing, causing your furniture
to contract and expand every 24-hour period. As a result, joints
loosen, and the finish can get soft and damaged. In the basement,
high moisture causes mildew, and lacquer can act as a food for mildew
and mold. Consequently, your finish is at risk.
